Instructions:
- At beginning of term remove the old student records from
the server (Ex: the GDT student records are in the 'GdtRecords'
folder in the 'me' folder in my 'public_html' folder). >>Store
these student records (text files) somewhere for later reference!
- Fill in the class Student Database (Select the Edit Student
Database page radio button, above go to that page and fill in
each field with the required info. Do not erase content from
any field, rather put an 'x' there to hold the table cell open.
(When the instructor_grades cgi script reads the database it
converts each line to a table row and if no content between the
commas it will show as a block, not a cell with a text field.)
- Return to this page and "Create" the Student Records
(see red cells above) NOTE: If this is used when the student
record files have already been created, it will create a new
one with same name, overwriting the older file and erasing all
grades!
-This cgi script will make new files in the server space (the
files will have the name of the students' passwords). These files
will be created in the student records folder for that class
(Ex: GdtRecords). These files are created according to the information
found in the current CLASSstudent.db (in other words the info.
found on the 'Edit Student Database' page.
- Not necessary (Give all the newly created
files in that class' student records folder 'write' permissions)
- To grade students select that class' Grading Page
- Enter assignment names, grades and comments, view all the
grades on their records, change grades on their record, check
their web sites & email them - all from the same page.
- Use the browser's back button when grading. It will allow
me to get back to the same spot on the grade sheet where I left
off before hitting the submit button. This means I can grade
one student, hit the submit button, IMMEDIATELY hit the browser's
back button and I will be returned to the place on the class
list where I can grade the next student. As a back up, I have
the cgi script ready to create another student grading page (form)
but this means I have to scroll down to find the next student.
This use of the back button is not consistent, however. It sometimes
will fail and spoke with tech person at wcc about this...
- The students' web sites will open in a separate browser window.
- Check the 'INPnotes' in my home hard drive (See 'grading
criteria' file) for assignment names, past comments, grading
criteria.
