Colin's thoughts on society:
Harder or easier to be a kid now?
I think it is both. There are not the constraints on kids now. They are free to be themselves. When I was growing up it was, 'kids were to be seen and not heard' and they meant it. The school I went to even through high school, you simply didn't ask questions, period. You sit there and listened and that's all you did. So I think from that angle kids have it much easier today. There are much more themselves but them on the other hand you have the drug culture and everything else which really complicates life much more than teens ever realize. So I think, in that respect, things are much harder nowadays. There are much more pressures on teens than ever before.
How has society has changed:
Dating
"It has changed immensely. Things are so much freer now. It used to be that you didn't go out with a young lady unless you were introduced. Now, hey, the girl calls you. It has changed considerably. It's much more relaxed. Much more relaxed."
Teenager's attitudes
"I think a lot of it has been coming for the last 2000 years. There's always an element of rebellion in teenagers. That's constant. It's a part of growing up. I think they are much kinder now. Much more considerate. I think, If anything, the teens are given too much nowadays. When I was a kid, you just didn't have anything. Nobody gave you anything because they didn't have it to give. That changes attitudes a little."
Families
"Families are breaking up more- no question. Used to be there was a mother and father in just about any home. You can see over the years in just about any classroom that about 1/2 of them come from split families."
Popular Culture
"Fashions come and go. TV and Movies have much more violence, much more. There never used to be violence allowed in movies. It wasn't accepted by the public and now the public seems hungry for violence and we have become a very violent society."
