Search Engine and Database
This search engine, written in Perl, was created to search through
a dynamic, tiered database that now includes about 16,000 web pages.
Users may select from 9 categories and search according to two criteria
and/ or keywords. If no exact match is found for a category search,
the program steps up through tiered categories until closest match
is found.
Email
Correspondence Program (Enter "HHmedialab" as
name and "insite220"as password.)
These series of CGI scripts provide a secure, monitored email
environment for high school students to correspond with their career
mentors. Teachers may either activate a group account for their
entire class (see link above) or assign each student an individual
password protected account. Student accounts display all sent and
received mail and link to appropriate mentor information from our
database.
Online
Grading Program
These scripts provide a password protected grading program for
Web Design instruction at Washtenaw Community College. The instructor
may create a student database at the beginning of the term then
call up a grading page for each student with links to that student's
email address, Web assignments, previous grades and comment sheet.
From this page the instructor can communicate with and grade the
student as well as change the student's previous grades. Enrolled
students may check their grades and read personalized instructor
comments by logging into their own password protected accounts. I created this program on the WCC server when I taught at the college. Most of my work continue to be used by other college staff but if the link above is broken, this one has been removed. Some of the functions of the demo also might have been disabled by the server administrator.
Quiz Program
This program creates and immediately grades quizzes taken
by students then posts the grade to their private account.
Database Creation Program
These scripts allow the user to create and edit a database online
under password security.
Server Upload Program
This program provides secure access to individual folders
on a server where the user with a password may upload files via
the Web. The user may not navigate to any other folder on the
server and each upload sends an email notice to the server administrator
with the date and time of the upload, the name of the user who
uploaded and a link to the file that was uploaded.
