Present

Career: I am a graphic artist/ web page designer. I started out as a graphic artist at the law school at the university. I did that for seven years and this led to finding out about different programs people were using for web development. I learned these skills then a job opened up doing this for a program that was associated with the university. So now I do the web work for them and also the print graphics. (They train lawyers for the whole state to help poor folks and I produce the educational materials for this.) It is not very creative though. I wish it were more creative. Whenever there is someone over me who tells me what they want..it does something to my creativity. The job is a service, though.

Marketable skills: What I do now I can do from anywhere, anytime for anyone. It is something that people want. When I go to the doctor's office people say,"Oh you do web pages? I want a web page. Let me have your number." It is something that is in demand.

Typical day at work: I do web page production for a little program that is connected with the law school (for the university). So when I get into work, there is a lot of email (questions about material on the web page) that I have to answer. Lots of mail that comes in. There are also lots of newsletters that come in that people want scanned and published and telephone requests for information. I work mostly on the computer.

Interests: I am part of this painter's group now and soon I will be doing what I have always wanted to do: art. We have a booth and we are going to do as many shows in the southeastern part of the state as we can. It will be hard work (and there's probably very little income potential) but this what I really want to do.
