Core
The Foster Grandparent Program: I like to do this the most. I feel it is important to give special attention to these little children who need hugs. Working with these kids motivates me to get up everyday. I love children, I love to work with them.
Being the first black woman to manage an Arby's: It felt great, really. I had a lot of respect from my peers, both the white and black guys who worked there. Everybody would go into these management meetings and most of the time I was the only woman in there but I still got respect from everybody.
Having fun as a young adult: When I was younger, I used to go out to clubs and such, but I never was a drinking person. You can have just as much fun not drinking as you can drinking.
Living life to the fullest: Well, every morning when I get up, I say, "Thank you, Jesus" because I give honor and glory to Him first. Then I go about my day. I just try to do my ritual and go about my day. Anyone in my building will tell you that I am a "go ahead" person. I am not one to sit and watch television, although I love television and I love reading but I like to be doing things. I don't like to sit there and wait for things to come to me.
Have you ever felt like giving up on your faith (because of all the hard stuff you have been through)? No, never. There was a time when I didn't go to church as much as I was raised to go (but I think 's because I was raised to go to church when I was young and then when I got on your own I kind of got in that predicament like: "Hey, I don't have to go to church now because I am my own person" but I never gave up on my faith during that time.
Why are you still a Christian? I have so much to be thankful for: I am 65 years old and I have had 14 surgeries (I have had open heart surgery, I have had quadruple bypass). If you don't believe in a higher being after being through all these things after being through all these things and coming through them. I don't what can make you believe. Like I say, I never wavered in my belief coming up. Every where I moved I joined a church. Every where I have ever lived I always go to church and if I know I will be there for a while I have to have a church home.
