Paul Fortier
Mural Description

This chapel mural was created in 1982 as a gift, to the Detroit Cursillo Movement, an interdenominational Christian community offering mini-retreats to people from any background or faith tradition.

The painting depicts the followers of Christ descending from the mountain after being commissioned to ‘make disciples of all nations.’ At the foot of the mountain, the followers meet with and merge into the flow of human history, moving toward the chapel door where life-sized figures (portraits of individuals who had recently completed a mini-retreat) exit the chapel and enter the world.

Years after the mural was completed, the owners of the building, Sacred Heard Seminary, ended the landlord-tenant relationship with the Cursillo and took possession of the chapel and the mural.
