Technology Arts Training Program
A training program providing marketable technology and arts skills to the underserved.
Computer skills are required in most every field today and each year new technology jobs are added to the marketplace. This trend shows no signs of slowing. In fact, each year many technology positions go unfilled in Florida. Yet many young people in our community still lack marketable computer skills and are, therefore, at a great disadvantage when seeking employment.
Our entire community benefits when youth gain the skills necessary to compete and succeed in our Internet-connected economy. The TechArts Training Program is a social enterprise designed to take teens and young adults with limited computer skills and move them toward technological self sufficiency and then on to further education and fulfilling careers. We focus on providing training in occupational areas of high local need such as software and application development.
Through an innovative, art-centered approach, we are able to engage young people who might otherwise remain disenfranchised from the educational system and the larger society. Graduates of our Digital Journalism Course (linked below) obtain Adobe certification, develop their creative capabilities, learn discipline and teamwork, and integrate important lessons about life.
Digital Journalism Course
In this intergenerational, technology/arts project, at-risk teens create interactive portraits of local seniors who share lessons they have learned from their life experiences. The course is scheduled to begin in Wakulla County in September of 2015.
Every community is richer when all members contribute to the daily discourse. This oral history project uses the digital arts to bridge the generational divide and bring the moderating voices of our seniors into the conversation.
